A large part of being an artist is being able to share the arts with others. Jamie's artwork and her teaching practice stem from the same set of values. They come from a belief in the intrinsic empowerment found in art making, the importance of drawing from personal experiences, and an emphasis on asking questions in order to grow.
Jamie has worked as a teaching artist since 2006. She's taught both children and adult students in diverse settings including, K-12 schools, service agencies, community centers, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. She is currently the pre-K - 8th grade arts educator at Marlboro Elementary School in Marlboro, VT.

The most powerful moments as an educator are those that happen away from the classroom; when a student takes something that she has learned and applies it to another facet of her life.
John Dewey says, "learning is what happens when what is taught has been forgotten." A successful learning situation is one in which a student feels personal growth, rather than just accumulation of knowledge or experience.

As a teacher, Jamie works as a facilitator, taking on the responsibility to create a safe and inclusive learning environment that will encourage collaboration, critical thinking, and risk taking.
As she imparts technical skills and information, she encourages her students as active learners. She accomplishes this by remaining open and available to the challenges as well as the expertise and individual interests of her students.
